Conscious Consuming

I recently came across Trade As One and bought some of their products for a holiday gift.  I was struck by the idea and wanted to see what was around the Net about Conscious (or Ethical) Consuming. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say:

buying products and services that are made ethically. This may mean with minimal harm to or exploitation of humans, animals and/or the natural environment. Ethical consumerism is practiced through ‘positive buying’ in that ethical products are favoured, or ‘moral boycott’, that is negative purchasing and company-based purchasing.

And here’s a video by the founder of Trade As One.

I find this interesting because it uses our desire to buy stuff AND our desire to help other people.  Usually these two get disconnected, but this strategy links them, and I think that’s why it will be successful.

Not only are we buying a quality product, but a quality product with an inspirational story.  Seems like a recipe for American success.
