Late Night With Jimmy Fallon →
As I’m sure everyone already knows (although it was news to me) Jimmy Fallon is replacing Conan when Conan replaces Leno. Given that news (and because I saw that Fallon was twittering) I went to check out the website.
After watching a few videos and generally perusing the site I was struck by the fact that Fallon is attempting to reinvent what it means to “watch” his late night show.
He posted pictures of himself (even from his childhood) on Flickr.
As I mentioned, he’s twittering.
He’s posting reviews of restaurants on Yelp.
He’s even on last.fm, facebook, myspace, and many, many more.
Now I think this is interesting because we as viewers have all sorts of ways to “watch” Jimmy Fallon. There is a lot of depth here, which is nice. He’s attempting to be very open and facilitate community.
But part of me thinks this is disingenuous. I mean not many people are on all of the following: myspace, twitter, facebook, last.fm, imeem, flickr, Dig, Mixx, Reddit, Hi5, Ning, Bebo, MyNBC, YouTube, etc. Serisouly.
I’m glad he’s being open and engaging his audience in other places than just broadcast (one-way) TV, but I wish his involvement were more genuine.
