most important desktop application: web browser

With a web browser I can do almost everything (if not everything) I currently do using licensed desktop applications.

I can create presentations, documents, and spreadsheets.  Additionally, I can even store (and share) my files online.  I can edit photos, video and music.  I can email and otherwise communicate online.  I can even analyze data.

Not to mention the additional things a web browser makes easier:

  • Sharing: instant access, always available
  • Portability: all that is needed is a computer (any) and an Internet connection
  • Collaborating: through comments, simultaneous editing, etc.

Now, I know this wouldn’t work for power users, but in a short time I’m sure functionality will be added to each of these tools and bandwidth / processing power will make it possible for power users to be fully satisfied using these online tools.

Additionally, the web browser allows me to watch TV / video and listen to music / audio.

Thus, the web browser is by far the most important desktop application.
