democratizing media

the Internet has long been heralded as the medium that has (or will, depending on your perspective) democratize media.  Has it?  In some ways, yes.  But, I would argue that democratizing media requires the majority of people in the democracy to get involved.  That clearly hasn’t happened, and until a technology is invented that will make people want to get involved, it likely will not happen.

My point is that the Internet gives us the opportunity to democratize media, but actually democratizing media requires people to get involved.  And I’m dubious of the idea that the majority of people will actually get involved in media creation.
