Yahoo! Inc. - Press Release →
Yahoo!’s new mobile feature - oneConnect, sounds pretty good, but how does it stack up to my mobile browsing wishlist?
- Content: Yahoo! appears to understand that I don’t just want Y! content, but everything I typically browse on the Internet. That’s good.
- Interface: It uses the Y! Go interface, which is pretty good, but not “bug” free, and not always super intuitive.
- Speed: I haven’t tried it yet, so I’m unsure how quick it will operate, but I’m sure that’s mostly out of Y!’s control and depends more on the service provider.
- Connections w. People: This is the “sweet spot” for oneConnect. It allows me to use my address book as a dashboard on my networks recent activity, which includes knowing where they are geographically. Apparently it works with twitter, facebook, etc.
- Connections w. Data: The press release claims that Y! is working with a company called DataViz to allow mobile users to “access their corporate Microsoft Exchange email accounts and Microsoft Office documents.” I’m skeptical. And, I would rather have access to music, videos, etc.
- Commerce: Nothing. There is no mention of commerce capabilities in the release.
Overall, not bad. I’m excited to try this service out. Hopefully it delivers.
