mobile browsing wishlist
With all the hype that the iPhone has brought, mobile browsing still hasn’t taken off. My wife has an iPhone, but I’m still not very satisfied with mobile browsing. Below is my mobile browsing wish-list. The list is a mix of things I think are needed for mobile browsing to really take off and things that I think would be useful, but not necessary for it to take off. I’ve noted that by placing “necessary” next to certain items.
- Content: I don’t want to just view the Internet on my phone, but rather content that is more accessible on a mobile device. I want bite size chunks of the news, blogs, etc. that I find important. (Necessary)
- Interface: the iPhone nailed this one. An intuitive user interface is a must. But it also needs to be “open” so that I can download other software. (Necessary)
- Speed: just like with the computer-based Internet, the speed at which we can access content is critical. We are still pretty much in “dial-up” mode and need broadband to hit for any real movement to happen. (Necessary)
- Connections w. People: I want an easy way to connect with other mobile users (regardless of network) to share text-based thoughts, music, files, etc.
- Connections w. our Data: we will also desire access to our “data”, whether it be photos, music, movies, files, etc. regardless of whether they exist “in the sky” or on our home-based computers.
- Commerce: this exists in other countries so it’s possible. I want to be able to pay for certain things via my mobile phone.
