Pew Internet: Teens and Social Media →
Pew Internet has produced yet another invaluable study in helping us understand how the Internet is changing our society, this time focusing on Teens. I found this quote particularly interesting, seeing as it is counter to many current stereotypes: “However, we have yet to see compelling evidence that these highly wired teens are abandoning offline engagement with extracurricular activities...

The future of music →
Bob Lefestz explains why DRM is crap and how the music industry might (read: will) look very different in the not too distant future.  Personally, I think eMusic is leading the way to the future with their fixed monthly fees for an allotted number of downloads that are completely DRM free.  The only downfall will be if they continue to only focus on Indie labels (which they have to because of the...

Enjoying life via the web
My random question of the day is whether or not the web allows us (i.e. me) to enjoy life more or less? I’ve noticed that I now feel as if I always have to carry a camera with me (and sometimes a video camera as well) so that I can capture all the fun, exciting, tragic, and beautiful moments in my life and share them on the web. I also feel the need to communicate through text what...

Coffee: Want A Thriving Coffee Shop? Open Next To... →
This is counter to conventional wisdom that Starbucks is evil and is ruining the mom-and-pop coffee shop culture.  In fact, it seems that Starbucks is actually creating a culture of coffee lovers, which will only help the mom-and-pop industry.

terrible experience watching video on NBC.com
The network sites could learn a thing or two from Youtube, Vimeo, etc.  These sites make it so easy to watch video that I don’t even have to think much about what I’m doing.  Contrast that with NBC (I’m trying to catch up on The Office).  NBC’s site seems tailored for advertisers, not consumers, which is a major problem for both.  Here are a few problems with the site:...

Tis the Season →
When I was a kid I always loved the holiday season for the commercials. It’s the one time of the year when Fred Flintstone let Barney Rubble eat some Fruity Pebbles. All year he’d be a total jerk and take them away, but once a year santa would say “tis the season” and Flintstone would let him have some. And the Clydesdales would come in with their wagon full of Bud and the...

I was talking with a colleague of mine today, Lawrence Neisler, and this is what he said, “We had a big win yesterday. I was in a client meeting and they told me that they had some input about their web site from a disgruntled former employee. On her laundry list of the company’s failings was their new web site. She called it ‘barf-y.’ Fortunately, everyone from the client started laughing.” My...

Peanut Butter Needs Jelly →
A lot of times we loose track and forget about how a beautiful unity can produce something that makes you stop and think. It’s a simple concept. “two great tastes that taste great together”. We’ll call it the “Reese’s Effect”. It applies to tons of things if you think about it. What would peanut butter be without jelly? What would Ren be with out Stimpy?...
